Hello,
I am new to ghazals. Love to understand more, so I want to learn more. I
know a bit of Hindi but not Urdu.
Are there sites that keep translations of ghazals? What are good urdu ->
English dictionaries I can rely on?
I would like to know what the readership can offer.
Just recently bought Gems of Urdu Ghazals by KC Kanda. I am completed
bowled over by Mir Taqi Mir's classics.
Other day I was listening to this PUdhas Ghazal. Can any one translate this
for me?
A Big Thanks !
(Apologize for phoentic spellings/mis-spellings).
Patti Patti Gulaab Ho Jaati
Har Kali Mehal Quab Ho Jaati
Tune Daalina Mefisha Nazre
Varna Shabnam Sharaab Ho Jaati
Patti Patti Gulaab Kya Hogi
Har Kali Mehal Quab Kya Hogi
Jisne Laakho Hasin Dehke Ho
Uski Niyat Kharab Kya Hogi
La Pilade Saqiya - Paimana Paimane Ke Baad
Hosh Ki Baate Karronga - Hosh Me Ane Ki Baad
La Pilade Saqiya .
Dil mera Lenee Ki Qatir Minnate Kya Kya Na Kiye
Kaise Nazare Ther Li Matalab Nikal Jane Ke Baad
La Pilade Saqiya Pehman Pehmane Ki Baad
Waqt Sari Zindagi Me Do Hi Guzre He Katin
Ek Tere Aane Se Pehle, Ek Tere Jane Ke Baad
La Pilade Saqiya Pehman Pehmane Ki Baad
Surhuru Hota He Insaaf Thokre Kaane Ke Baad
Rang Laati Hehina Pattar Pe Pis Jaane Ke Baad
La Pilade Saqiya Pehman Pehmane Ki Baad
First of all, I think it is necessary to provide as correct
an Urdu version of these verses, as is possible in the
circumstances :
Patti patti gulaab ho jaati
Har kali mahv-e-KH(w)aab ho jaati
Tu ne DaaleeN na mai~fishaaN nazreN
Warna shabnam sharaab ho jaati
Patti patti gulaab kya hogi
Har kali mahv-e-KH(w)aab kya hogi
Jis ne laakhoN haseen dekhe hoN
Us ki neeyat KHaraab kya hogi
La pilaade saqiya, paimaana paimaane ke b'ad
Hosh ki baateN karooNga hosh men aane ke b'ad
Dil mira lene ki KHaatir minnateN kya kya na keeN
Kaisi nazreN pher leeN, matlab nikaljaane ke b'ad
La pilaade saaqiya paimana paimaane ke b'ad
Waqt saari zindagi men do hi guzreN haiN kaThin
Ik tire aane se pehle, ik tire jaane ke b'ad
La pilaade ..........
SurKH~roo hota hai insaaN ThokareN khaane ke b'ad
RaNg laati hai hina patthar pe pis jaane ke b'ad
La pilaade .........
Note : In our Newsgroup, people use a few "systems"
to write Urdu in Roman script. The trans-
literation used above employs one such "system".
Most people in our Group (or maybe I should have said all
ALUPers) believe that Urdu "newbies" (i.e. those trying to
learn Urdu) should receive as much support and encouragement
as possible.
You have called this a "PUdhas" ghazal. Surely, you mean
Pankaj Udhas.
Whether this is a "ghazal" is moot. I would call it just
a collection of different verses.
As for the translation, let us leave it for another day.
